Sundancer Registration
Through fasting and dancing before the Sacred Tree, the Sundancer offers prayers, body, and spirit throughout the four days of ceremony.
The Path of the Sundancers
Ceremonial commitment, prerequisites, and traditional preparation
Sundancers offer their prayer through fasting from water and food, and dancing for four days within the sacred circle before the Tree. To embark upon this prayer, please consider these essential requirements:
Sundancers are expected to have completed the traditional preparation in the Chanunpa way, including Vision Quests and participation in Inipi ceremonies.
Arrive in time for the preliminary purification days, take part in camp chores, and formally ask the Dance Leaders for permission to dance.
Bring your appropriate regalia, tobacco to offer, and personal camping gear. Remember that Sundancers must stay in the designated dancers’ tipis or in their own tents in the dancers’ area.
Sundancers are responsible for informing their family members and helpers in advance about camp etiquette, logistics, and respectful conduct throughout the ceremony.
